Vaginal Ring

A flexible ring-shaped drug delivery product worn inside the vagina that women can insert and remove themselves. An IVR provides sustained and controlled drug release within the vagina over an extended period of time. IVRs are being studied as a potential delivery device for microbicides to protect women against HIV infection. IVRs are also being investigated as a way to deliver multipurpose prevention technologies, which can simultaneously protect women against HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and unintended pregnancy.
