Nominations Now Being Accepted for New Members for the NIH/CDC/IDSA Guideline Panel for the Management of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents

The Panel that produces the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents is accepting nominations for new members with expertise in the prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections that complicate HIV/AIDS. 

These guidelines have been available since 1995 and are the gold standard for the prevention and management of opportunistic infections and coinfections. It is incumbent that the guidelines are evidence-based, current, accurate, and free of bias. These guidelines are intended for clinicians and other health care providers in the United States. 

Panel members critically evaluate new information and prepare guideline revisions. The candidates should be recognized experts in their areas of interest, either on the basis of published clinical research or on the basis of extensive clinical experience. The successful candidates will serve a 3-year term beginning October 2017, with potential for reappointment for an additional term. 

The Panel is a Working Group of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council of NIH. The panel is organized into writing teams that focus on specific groups of pathogens. The writing teams are typically composed of 4 to 10 members who meet by teleconference several times per year to assess whether revisions are needed. Recommendations are reviewed and updated by each writing team after an assessment of the quality and impact of the existing data and any new data. The goal is to have an online document that is promptly updated when published data support a revision. The writing team leaders communicate with guideline leadership regularly to report what changes their team considers appropriate and to establish a timeline for providing such revisions. 

Successful candidates must abide by committee conflict of interest rules which are published on the Clinical Info website. Members are expected to participate regularly in committee calls, and respond promptly to requests to review data or contribute to written revisions. 

Panel members are not financially compensated for their time commitment. 

The nomination should include a curriculum vitae and a letter of interest with specific reference to how the nominee would contribute to the work of the Panel. Self-nomination is welcome.
