HIV/AIDS Glossary

A highly contagious, acute liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). It is usually transmitted by contact with the feces of a person with hepatitis A, such as by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water, or by person-to-person contact. People with HIV and who have underlying liver disease have a higher likelihood of severe HAV than people who have HAV infection alone.
