Today is National Transgender HIV Testing Day (NTHTD), a day to recognize the importance of routine HIV testing, status awareness, and continued focus on HIV prevention and treatment for people who are transgender or gender nonbinary.

According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2018 adult and adolescent transgender people made up 2 percent of new HIV diagnoses in the United States and dependent areas. People who are transgender or gender nonbinary may face challenges that can impact their likelihood to engage in HIV prevention and treatment, such as stigma and transphobic discrimination.
