Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test, Purified Protein Derivative Test
A screening test for tuberculosis (TB) performed by injecting a small amount of fluid (called tuberculin) just below the skin. A positive reaction 48 to 72 hours after the injection indicates that the person has the TB bacteria. Additional tests are needed to determine whether the person has latent TB or TB disease. People with HIV or another medical problem that weakens the immune system should be tested for TB.
