A disease caused by the fungus Talaromyces marneffei, which only affects people who live in or visit Southeast Asia, southern China, or eastern India. Symptoms include fever, anemia, weight loss, and skin lesions. Talaromyces marneffei infection occurs mostly in people with weakened immune systems, such as people with HIV. Without timely antifungal treatment, the disease can be fatal.
