Primary Varicella Infection

A highly contagious, acute infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV or HHV-3). Primary varicella infection is commonly known as chickenpox. Chickenpox usually occurs during childhood, although adults can also get it. Symptoms can include blister-like rash, itching, fever, loss of appetite, headache and fatigue. People who are immunocompromised, such as people with HIV, are at risk of having a more severe case of chickenpox than people who are immunocompetent.
