HIV/AIDS Glossary

Lower-than-normal number of neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) in the blood. Moderate to severe neutropenia can increase the risk of bacterial and fungal infections. Neutropenia may occur as a result of HIV or use of some antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.
