HIV/AIDS Glossary

A DNA virus species belonging to the group (or genus) Orthopoxvirus. Other viral species belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus include the variola virus (which causes smallpox), vaccinia virus, and cowpox virus. Two distinct mpox virus clades exist: Clade I and Clade II. Infection with the mpox virus causes mpox disease.
