HIV/AIDS Glossary

A major HIV gene that encodes the Env glycoprotein gp160. The Env glycoprotein gp160 is broken down into two smaller HIV glycoproteins (gp120 and gp41) that form the envelope of HIV. In addition to referring to the gene, Env can also refer to the glycoproteins produced by the gene. Env glycoproteins are important for HIV binding and fusion.
