Distal Sensory Polyneuropathy (DSP)

A type of peripheral neuropathy that can occur in people with HIV. Symptoms of distal sensory polyneuropathy (DSP) include tingling, numbness, or burning pain that normally begins in the legs and feet and may spread to the hands. There are two types of DSP: HIV-DSP, which is due to HIV infection itself and antiretroviral (ARV)-DSP, which is caused by certain ARV drugs.
