Bronchitis

Audio

An inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from the lungs. Symptoms include wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and a frequent cough that at first is dry and later produces mucus. Bronchitis may be either acute (usually developing from a respiratory infection) or chronic (due to constant irritation or inflammation of the bronchial tubes, such as from smoking). Bronchitis occurs frequently among people with HIV.
